SERVING INJURED CLIENTS THROUGHOUT THE U.S.A.

Fairs

Many families go to local fairs, especially in the summer months. While fairs can be a lot of fun, they can also be dangerous. If your child was injured at a fair, you might want to seek help by filing a personal injury claim. But before you do this, you need to make sure that you were indeed attending a fair, and which type of fair it was. Fairs, festivals, carnivals, and amusement parks can be difficult to distinguish between. On this page, I will define the fair and explain some common types of fairs that you may have attended.

What is a Fair?

A fair, also known as a “funfair” is defined as entertainment activities or commercial activities that people gather to participate in. It is the characteristic of most fairs that they are temporary events that occur on a schedule. For example, a fair might occur on the same day once a year, or there might be a schedule that the fair will run for a few weeks during the summer. Common events that might take place at a fair include games, rides, food, music, etc.

Types of Fairs

There are many different types of fairs that might take place in different locations. Generally, a fair is meant to mobilize a community, and the size of that community might vary. For example, there is the street fair, which will celebrate a neighborhood. Because it is neighborhood oriented, the street fair will likely take place on the main street of the neighborhood.

Then there is the county fair. A county fair generally celebrates the agriculture, animals, food, technology, and recreation of a specific county. The theme of county fairs is still local to that county.

You might also attend a state fair, which is a larger version of a street or county fair. State fairs are usually an annual recreational and competitive gathering of a state. State fairs might include exhibitions that have won a county fair. In many cases, a state fair is held during late summer or early fall.

Are Festivals a Type of Fair?

Many people put festivals and fairs in the same category. Festivals and even carnivals can be considered a type of fair by some. However, I will discuss festivals and carnivals separately, on different pages of this website. You can learn more about these events by checking out those pages.

An injury at a fair is never fun. You go into a fair expecting wholesome family fun, but unfortunately, these events can turn dangerous. Whether there is a problem with the food served, the games or rides, or the exhibitions, injuries can occur at fairs.
